Angel and Her Videos

Angel has been spending a lot of time over the past year taking video footage and teaching herself to edit them. In November she even spoke at an event in Seattle, talking about how easy it is to take and edit videos with whatever gear you have.

Along with taking photos, Angel started taking some simple video with her basic Canon Powershot SD1400 IS. The camera took pretty nice video, 720p HD. She used the camera every day and it has the wear marks to show for it.

She replaced the camera in April, after the camera focusing motor started to act up and make weird noises, a couple weeks after that she accidentally dropped the camera, cracking the screen. It was time for a new one, so she bought the Canon Powershot 110HS. This was a nice up grade for her. Allowing for full 1080p HD video shooting. She has taken a lot of great photos and videos with the camera. This is what she currently uses for almost everything.

Along with those cameras, she also occasionally uses the GoPro HD Hero I picked up at an REI Garage Sale last year. We have been able to take a lot of great video with this.

With the use of these cameras, and her MacBook Pro with iMovie, she is able to make these great little videos. In the past couple weeks she has made some of my favorite videos.

In Monday Tradition, she simply filmed what she did on Mondays, when she’s not at school, and I’m at work. Featuring one her favorite places to get vegan biscuits and gravy, Wandering Goat.

Mount Pisgah Hike, last week we spent a couple short hours, while it was dry out, hiking around Mount Pisgah.

Winter Soup, This is a great short little video of her making soup. She makes a big pot of soup almost every week, then eats it thought the week. A friend had asked her how she makes it. She had a great creative way to share it with them. You can read about it, and see the recipe HERE.

You can watch more of Angel’s great videos by going to my BreadBikeBlog YouTube Channel. Most the videos on there have been made by Angel. Some she helped me with, but now because of her I can help shoot video footage and help her produce great videos.

Throughout the month of February I took a lot of great photos that I never used in any of my posts here. So instead of letting them fade back into the darkness of Flickrs past I have collected them all here for anyone interested. February was quite eventful this year. I ended up going on a couple good long rides with friends as well as by myself. I had some good foods I haven’t had in a long time, like a Voodoo Doughnut. And had some great finds like a compost bin and roller trainer.
Now, on to March for even more exciting new adventures for me.

Instagrams into StickyGram Magnets

Most people know what Instagram is by now, whether they use it themselves with their iPhone, or are bombarded by their friends’ photos being posted on their social media of choice. It’s a nice way to take photos with some style and post them quickly. StickyGram is a company that will take your Instagram photos and make them into magnets. There are a growing number of other companies out there that do similar services, but I decided to go with StickyGram magnets as a Valentine’s gift for Angel. I ordered them on the 13th and got them the 21st, just over a week to get them, which is great, especially since they came from London, England. The overall quality of the magnets are really nice. The magnets are strong and the image quality is great (although I assumed they would be glossy, and they are matte). The image has a white border around the image. It would be nice if the image had a full bleed (image goes to the edge) so there would be no added white, or an option for a black border. I will say one of the magnets dropped and hit its corner. In that corner the image is slightly peeling back. 😦 Other than that, they are great. When I get more nice photos, I will probably make some more.

Ride the City iPhone App

I was given the opportunity test out the Ride the City iPhone App and have a couple extra copies to share with my followers. (~~More about how to receive a free copy below the page break~~)** These are my first thoughts and initial write up for the app. I will write an in depth review on the app after I get to use it a little more. Some of you might be familiar with the Ride the City bicycle route map site. The iPhone app allows you to do the same thing, on the go from your phone. The RTC app has been out since April of 2010. They just recently came out with Version 1.5 which has a lot of great new features.
Weather:
• Check in app before your ride
• Fully featured weather forecast for the day
Layers:
• City bike routes, lanes, and paths
• Bike shops
• Bike share stations
Easy Drop Markers:
• Touch screen to drop start/end markers
• Great if you don’t know the exact address

The map and routing for the site and app is based on Open Street Map. Ride the City bike path and lane distinctions are a lot nicer than the ones Google’s Bike Routing feature does. Google uses light green for bike lanes, light green dashes for safer recommended routes, and dark green for off road bike paths and trails. So it tends to be a lot of green. The Ride the City maps use blue for bike lanes, blue dash for safe routes, and green for for off road bike paths and trails. Currently, the App only works for 38 cities, the same as the Ride the City site, which are all listed out after the page break.

The Ride the City iPhone App can be purchased for $1.99.
The Ride the City website itself is free to use.

January Foot 365

This year I decided to try a 365 photo projects. In recent years lots of people have been doing projects like these in many different ways. Some do self portraits, scenery, or something like this bike being stripped down to nothing over a year: LIFECYCLE. I chose to do something a little different. I take a photo of my right foot, shot in square format with my iPhone from my knee. Those are the only rules I have for the photo. Whether or not anyone else finds it interesting, I don’t know. I didn’t really care about doing this, I just thought it would be funny as a joke and that I would not finish it, but after the first month of it, it kind of looks cool when you see the photos in a group together.

End of January Bike Ride

Angel and I got ice cream from Viva! Vegetarian Grill today. The second greatest vegan ice cream, only to my own. 😉 Viva has the best soft serve, with great flavors to choose from, all organic, with specialty ingredients. They have new flavors every couple weeks. Angel got Mocha and I got Apple Spice. After that, we rode down to the river paths around Alton Baker Park to see the flooded areas. The flooding had receded, but the water is still high enough that some of it covers or reaches the edges of the path. Later saw a Penny-farthing.

Fern Ridge Lake Ride

Friday I ate pizza with Angel between classes at Pegasus Pizza. Afterwards, I went on a ride out to Fern Ridge Lake. It’s nice to get out on a good ride during the break in the winter weather. I had never ridden out to the lake itself; Angel and I had only ridden out to the end of Fern Ridge Bike Path on the first day we moved to Eugene. It was my First Post on my blog. I didn’t know where I was going to go I just figured if I went west from Fern Ridge Bike Path I would have to run into the lake. So ended up going straight out Royal Ave, right of the bike path, and ran into something I didn’t know existed (it’s not marked on Google Maps) but it was a part of the Fern Ridge Wildlife Area. Royal Ave runs right to the divide of the Royal Amazon Unit and Fisher Butte Unit. It was a great ride and when the weather gets nicer I will have to ride out again and spend more time hiking around the wildlife area.

First Snow in Eugene, Photos & Videos

Today(1-15-12) was the first day it snowed in Eugene, Oregon this season. It didn’t snow much, some heavy flurries, but nothing that sticks. Angel and I walked around a bit and took some nice photos and videos of the day. I wish I could have gotten up in the hills where it looked like it was frosted over, and might have stuck to the ground a little more.
